In To The Winds, 2020

The Wind River Mountains. The Winds. Have you seen them from a distance? Have you ever wanted to hike into their depths? Those craggy peaks hold a lot of mystery from the little they give up from a long distance. We had to go. So we drove across Oregon, Idaho and part of Wyoming. We arrived to snow squalls in September, and so we held off on the edge waiting to go in.

Glass Buttes, 2020

I guess three years has somehow passed since our last trip to Glass Buttes. It seems like yesterday. How time flies. As meteorological spring started on March 1 (astronomical spring is right around the corner) it was high time to get the camper on the truck and get out on our first trip, and Glass Buttes seemed like as good a spot as any for an inaugural 2020 trip.

We arrived as it was getting dark on Friday but found a nice quiet spot and settled in for the night. It wasn’t long until the coyotes sang a welcome. We woke up to fresh snow on Saturday just as you would expect from spring weather. There were also some sagebrush buttercups blooming.

In Like A Lion, 2019

Well, I sure hope the old saying comes true. After a record snowfall in February we are still buried in a few feet of snow two weeks into March. Thinking back to January days in the 60's I was guessing we would have an early start to exploring season. We upgraded the camper in February (more on that in a future post) and then the snow came.
