Lost River Basin, 2023

There is a place in Idaho that has the highest mountains in the state, abundant high elevation lakes and relatively few people. It’s hard to put a label on it, and it hasn’t been branded with this or that “protection” that usually brings in the hordes and destroys the place with crowds fawning all over the place. We got to spend a few days there this August.

Exploring the White Mountains, New Hampshire, 2022

After a little looking around Vermont’s only National Forest on our last trip, we decided it was time to check out neighboring New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest. With a birthday to celebrate and couple days off along with a favorable forecast (can you say 60’s and sunny in November?) we hit the road. In my opinion there’s no better way to celebrate another successful orbit around the sun than to get outside and see something new.

Fall in Vermont, 2022, Part 3

Almost as soon as the colors peaked in the maples it seemed they were starting to fade. We needed to get out and about to enjoy the colors while they lasted. We started with a tour of the Champlain Valley and the islands of Lake Champlain. As we headed out over Jay Peak the trees at the summit were starting to look like sticks, but as we dropped in elevation toward the valley it seemed like fall was just getting started.
