Labor Day is approaching and the long hot smoky days of summer draw are drawing to a close. Fire season necessitates sticking close to home over the summer but there have been some chances to escape to a nearby lake or two, and even a couple of days on the coast. Here’s a couple of shots from the last month or two of adventures.
Paulina Lake never disappoints with its blue water and beautiful sunsets. The kokanee are pretty tasty too.
Before fires completely filled the sky with smoke later in August we were treated to a few nice color filled sunsets, including this one spotted on the way back from an evening trip to Paulina.
Continuing on with the smoke theme, we had variations on smoky sunrises as we hit the water early on Odell. Some mornings it was off in the distance, while others were not so picturesque. No photos of the latter because well, remember the not so picturesque part?
Odell is always such a great escape. Cool nights, great fishing (well, not so great this year…), and peaceful days on the water. Oh and the camping is not too shabby either.
We also made a dash over the Cascades to check out the Blue Pool on the McKenzie. I’m still not sure how water can be that blue. It is one of those see it to believe it things.
And we were able to sneak in a quick tuna run to replenish the depleted stocks for another year. Conditions were right to fly a kite and we actually had a couple along. Sometimes it’s the simple things.
Overall a pretty good run through those long hot days. And I think there are still a few more fish to be caught and sunrises to capture before the leaves turn.
