Where did summer go? Luckily I can say part of it was spent trolling for kokanee at Odell Lake and watching osprey fly high above the spruce trees at Trapper Creek. Here is a compilation of photos from a few trips over the summer.
We have been waiting for the right time, the combination of nice fall weather and trying to time the color change on the aspens. The first weekend we had planned was forecasted to be snowy with highs possibly in the 40’s. Then the sunny weather came along and we headed east to the Steens with our fingers crossed hoping for some fall colors on the aspens.
It was nearly dark by the time we arrived. The days in October are just too short. But we awoke to blue skies and golden colors on the trees.
Just when you think you have a plan for the fall, weather comes along and changes it. We were working down our list and the forecast for the coming weekend was for snow and freezing temperatures. So much for plans to view fall colors on the high desert. Luckily there is always another option. We wouldn’t want to do something extreme like stay home. We headed to the lower elevation country for a tour of the Hood River Fruit Loop, an ideal time with the fall harvest of apples, pears, peaches and such just coming on.
We stayed on the Mt. Hood National Forest. We had a wild pack of spotted owls wake us up in the night hooting and howling from all directions. Then we awoke to light snow.
