Spring, 2019, A Reservoir, A River and High Mountain Lakes

The end of May and first part of June have been a bit of a whirlwind. The weather turns nice this time of year, and there are a lot more options of places to see and things to do. The last few weeks we’ve had the opportunity to enjoy a variety of nice water, including a trip to a reservoir, a wild and scenic river and a couple nice high mountain lakes.

The Reservoir

We tried to go to Prineville Reservoir last year when we heard of epic crappie catches. Then the water dropped too low and we just didn’t make it in time. This year we hit it at full pool and the crappie bite was still on. They were delicious.

Metolius River, 2019

A few weeks back we escaped to the Metolius for a quick overnight trip. It’s a short drive to a beautiful spot here in central Oregon, but not one we frequent.

The weather was great, the crowds were there, but nothing like a summer weekend. The fishing on the other hand, well, let’s just say I didn’t expect to catch anything, and the Metolius met my expectations.

Deep in the Ochocos, 2018

As the weather starts to cool off, and the fire danger starts to drop off with it, we can start to venture a bit further afield to places with a few less people.  Last weekend that place was deep in the Ochocos, or Deep Creek to be more precise.   The North Fork of the Crooked River heads high in the Ochocos, runs through Big Summit Prairie and then turns south and meets Deep Creek.  While…
