Wandering the Warners, 2021

I don’t know if you have been out in the great outdoors in the past year, but if you have I’m going to bet that if you had to choose one word for your experience it would be “busy”. Yes, it’s busy out there. I can only hope with the pandemic slowing down that people will go back to whatever they were doing before it struck, instead of camping, fishing and generally crowding things up. So, with this in mind, and with Memorial Day upon us, what were we to do? Where could we go that wouldn’t be over run by the crowds? Well, I guess our answer was, as far away as possible. Luckily we found some peace and quiet. But trust me, you would never want to go there. So don’t do it. I’m serious.

Signs of the Times, 2020

Rounding up last years sign pics into a post was fun, I’m finally getting around to rounding up those captured in 2020, 5 months into 2021. Anyhow, here’s a few fun ones captured throughout the year for your enjoyment.

Signs. They tell us where we are. They tell us where to go, or where we shouldn’t. They oftentimes provide me with a chuckle.

Forks of the John Day, 2021, Part 3, Main John Day

Our last stop on our 2021 tour of the John Day started the morning after our last stop ended, with an early morning launch at Service Creek. Near as we could tell we were the first boat on the river, shoving of right at 8 a.m. just beating the crowd that was showing up as we were finishing up the last bit of loading. It was a beautiful sunny and calm morning. Weather perfect, the only question remaining was were the bass biting? The short answer – yes. Perfect weather was in the forecast, fish were biting, and the crowds were cut by the permit system, which was not in effect last time we were on the river. You can try it both ways, but I’m here to tell you, the river was immeasurably more enjoyable this time around. Could we ask for anything more? Maybe, but let’s not get greedy.
